About Schools' Energy Co-op

In the 10 years since we installed out first solar PV system, a 150kW array at Glenleigh Park Primary Academy in Bexhill, East Sussex, we have installed solar PV systems on 110 separate buildings, for 96 organisations -  81 schools, three children’s centres, a children’s hospice, the cloisters of Sailsbury Cathedral, a leisure centre and one commercial building.

Our total installed solar PV generating capacity (March 2025) is 4,225 kilowatts, with an expected annual generation of nearly 3.8 gigawatt-hours. This is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of nearly 1,500 average UK households.   Each year, we expect these systems to avoid, on average, 1,326 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Our systems range in capacity from 9.1 kilowatts on a school sports pavilion, to 419 kilowatts spread across 2 campuses and several buildings for Wiltshire College. Most of our installation are between 20 and 50 kilowatts, many of them on primary schools.

Our organisation is run co-operatively and we have more than 700 members who have invested in the scheme. A voluntary Board of Directors steers the group.
