Schools Energy Co-operative welcomes new school

4 March 2015

Mike Smyth, Schools Energy Co-op chair, says he is delighted to welcome Ashlyns School to the Schools Energy Co-op ‘family’ with the signing of the formal agreement between the School and the Co-op today.   Working together with Transition Town Berkhampsted, Ashlyns School and Schools Energy Co-operative have developed a project which increases the environmental sustainability of the new state-of-the-art sports hall which will be available for use by the community out of school hours as well as for school students during the school day.

Jacky Webby, Chair of Governors, said  ‘This is an exciting opportunity for us to combine cost saving benefits with an educational resource – and have a beneficial effect on our carbon footprint. Schools should be at the forefront of using technology to reduce our environmental impact but these are often costly; working with the School Energy Co-op has made this possible for us.’
